A Quick Look Back At The Peugeot 5008’s History

Peugeot 5008 background.

While the 5008 is a first of its kind in Peugeot's history, the first-generation Peugeot 5008 started life as an extremely forgettable seven-seat MPV produced from 2009 to 2016.

Peugeot then reimagined the current and second-generation 5008 as an SUV, essentially a three-row version of the Peugeot 3008 hybrid and plug-in hybrid C-SUV.

The Peugeot 3008 compact crossover SUV has been available since 2008 and is known for its attractive design and packaging. The 3008 could do quite well in the American market, given the popularity of SUVs here.

Five Highlights Of The New Peugeot E-5008

New Peugeot E-5008 highlights.

1. Unique Market Position

The French-made Peugeot E-5008 is currently the only all-electric SUV with a seven-passenger capacity while providing an impressive electric range of over 410 miles (660 km). This is why we’re confident this SUV will have a good run in North America. It’s a pioneering option for larger families or groups looking for sustainable transport solutions.

2. Platform and Design

Its Stellantis STLA Medium platform supports its extended configuration. With a wheelbase measuring over 114 inches (2.90 meters) and a total length of nearly 189 inches (4.79 meters), the E-5008’s interior is substantial, engendering enhanced comfort and practicality.

The E-5008’s STLA Medium "BEV-by-design" platform offers exceptional onboard energy capacity between the wheels, reaching up to 98 kWh. Its high-performance design enables efficient aerodynamics (with a drag coefficient, SCx, of 0.77), resulting in the E-5008’s segment-leading electric range.

3. Performance and Efficiency

The STLA Medium platform is engineered to optimize EV performance, resulting in a long range of over 410 miles, efficient 20% to 80% charge in just 30 minutes, and enhanced driving pleasure, thanks to smoother acceleration, quiet operation, and responsive handling. The extended range alone promotes peace of mind by reducing range anxiety.

4. Customer-Centric Features

The E-5008 is an SUV built from the ground up with customer needs in mind, as exemplified in the SUV’s welcoming and spacious interior, ideal for families or drivers who prioritize extra room.

The SUV comes prepped with advanced connected services like trip planning, smart charging, and vehicle-to-load capabilities, along with "over-the-air" updates for continuous improvement and new feature rollouts.

5. Warranty and Peace of Mind

The 8 years/100,000 miles (160,000 km) PEUGEOT ALLURE CARE extensive warranty program signals the brand's confidence in the SUV’s durability. It covers the electric motor, charger, powertrain, and key electrical and mechanical components for up to eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. This coverage is automatically extended for two years or 16,000 miles (25,000 km) after each service at a PEUGEOT network. ,

The New Peugeot E-5008's Powertrain, Performance, Range, And Charging Solutions

Peugeot E-5008 powertrains, performance, charging.

Peugeot’s new E-5008 sets a high standard in its segment with a diverse range of electric and hybrid powertrains. Designed from the ground up to serve in the e-mobility square, the E-5008 boasts a variety of zero-emission motors (awaiting WLTP cycle approval) that deliver between 311 to 411 miles of electric range. This includes an AWD Dual Motor and a Long Range version.

These permanent-magnet synchronous motors provide enhanced power and efficiency. The 2-wheel drive variants produce either 157 kW (255 lb-ft / 345 Nm) or 170 kW, while the dual-motor 4-wheel drive version achieves a combined output of 237 kW (157 kW at the front and 80 kW at the rear).

The front motor generates 255 lb-ft of torque, and the rear motor produces 126 (170 Nm). It uses a 400V Lithium-ion high-voltage battery with an NMC chemical composition (nickel, manganese, and cobalt) located beneath the floor.

This battery powers the electric motor, while a 12V battery, charged via a converter from the high-voltage battery, powers other electrical components like lights and infotainment systems. It achieves battery thermal management through coolant circulation, facilitating ultra-fast charging, optimized battery performance, and extended lifespan.

The heat pump ensures a comfortable cabin temperature while conserving battery energy. The battery comes with an eight-year (or 160,000 km) warranty for 70% of its charging capacity.

The charging port on the left rear wing supports both Mode 2/3 (AC) and Mode 4 (DC) connections. Two types of onboard chargers are available for AC charging: an 11 kW three-phase charger as standard and an optional 22 kW three-phase charger. For DC fast charging, the E-5008’s Mode 4 plug can handle up to 160 kW, enabling the vehicle to gain 63 miles (100 km) of range in just 10 minutes and charge from 20% to 80% in 30 minutes.

The New Peugeot E-5008 Hybrid

Peugeot E-5008 Hybrid.

To support their customers’ transition to electric mobility, PEUGEOT adds hybrid options to the new E-5008’s powertrains. The E-5008 Hybrid 136 e-DCS6 features the PEUGEOT HYBRID 48V system, pairing a new-generation 136 hp petrol engine with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox integrated with an electric motor.

This system, which recharges the battery while driving, provides additional torque at low revs and reduces fuel consumption by up to 15% (5.8 l/63 miles - 100 km in the WLTP combined cycle). In urban settings, the 5008 Hybrid 136 e-DCS6 can run in 100% electric zero-emission mode for up to 50% of the time.

Additionally, the 5008 introduces a Plug-In Hybrid (195 e-DCS7) variant with a 60-liter fuel tank. This version combines a 92 kW electric motor with a 150 hp internal combustion engine, achieving over 50 miles (80 km) of range in all-electric mode.

The New Peugeot E-5008's Aerodynamic Design

Peugeot E-5008 exterior design.

The new E-5008 projects strength and safety alongside a highly dynamic appearance. Its high beltline and pronounced shoulders contribute to a commanding road presence, complemented by its substantial dimensions (length: 4.79 m, width: 1.89 m, height: 1.69 m).

The chic grille is accented by a sleek black band around the front fascia, featuring ultra-compact LED headlights across all models. The E-5008 GT includes PEUGEOT's latest Pixel LED technology, which automatically adjusts the headlights to traffic conditions.

Following the innovative design seen in the PEUGEOT 408 and E-3008, the new E-5008 comes with wheels that enhance its modern look and aerodynamic efficiency. The 19’’ and 20’’ wheels feature a geometric technical design and the new PEUGEOT emblem at their center.

The New Peugeot E-5008 Colors

The new E-5008 is offered in six colors: Obsession Blue, Ingaro Blue, Okenite White, Pearl Black, Artense Grey, and Titanium Grey. The GT version comes standard with a two-tone paint scheme featuring a shiny black roof. The SUV finds true sophistication in simplicity.

The sloping rear windows is accentuated by refined side front styling cues, featuring a new light signature and an innovative grille seamlessly blending into the body color. The smooth, vertical side panels emphasize elegance by concealing the side window seals within the doors.

There are fewer decorative inserts, while chrome parts are replaced with painted panels, including Meteor Grey on the front spoiler and rear bumper and Orbital Black on the mirror housings and the lower part of the beltline.

The New Peugeot E-5008's EMOTIONal Tech Features

New Peugeot E-5008 EMOTION technology.

The new E-5008’s designers ensured everyone on board feels included in the SUV’s unique EMOTIONal experience. As the driver commands the breathtaking Panoramic i-Cockpit®, other passengers enjoy an abundance of space and comfort. The impressive 21" PEUGEOT Panoramic i-Cockpit® floating screen delivers a high-tech and user-friendly environment for everyone.

The Next-Level Panoramic i-Cockpit®

The Peugeot E-5008 Panoramic i-Cockpit®.

PEUGEOT's design team has innovatively combined two core components of the i-Cockpit®: the head-up display and the large central touchscreen. These elements are now seamlessly integrated into a single 21-inch high-definition curved panoramic screen that stretches from the left side of the dashboard to the center console.

This panoramic display appears to float above the dashboard, enhanced by ambient LED lighting that emphasizes this effect. Designed for optimal ergonomics, the 21-inch widescreen display is slightly curved towards the driver but remains easily accessible to the front passenger. This high-quality digital panel serves two essential functions of the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit®:

  • On the left, above the compact steering wheel, the display shows all critical driving information, such as speed, power meter, driving aids, and energy flow.
  • On the right, centrally located on the dashboard, the touchscreen is within reach for both the driver and passenger, managing the heating and air conditioning, navigation, media, and connectivity systems.

In the E-5008 Allure model, the i-Cockpit® features two 10-inch digital panels on a single support, maintaining the same floating effect as the 21-inch panel.

A Compact Steering Wheel with New Controls

Peugeot E-5008 Compact Steering Wheel with New Controls.

A hallmark of the PEUGEOT i-Cockpit® from the beginning, the compact steering wheel has been extensively redesigned to enhance tactile feedback and driving comfort. It retains its compact form with a modernized look. The central cushion has been minimized and 'isolated' from the wheel spokes, creating a levitating effect akin to the panoramic screen on the dashboard.

The updated PEUGEOT Panoramic i-Cockpit® introduces two slim, elegant control stalks behind the steering wheel and two paddles dedicated to regenerative braking.

The steering wheel controls have been updated to detect the driver's fingers for optimal ergonomics, activating only upon pressing to prevent accidental inputs. Standard on the E-5008 GT, the new compact steering wheel also includes heating functionality.

Ten Customizable i-Toggles®

Peugeot E-5008 Customizable i-Toggles.

The central dashboard features fully customizable touch-sensitive buttons called i-Toggles®. They can be programmed to provide quick access to ten of the user's preferred functions, such as calling a contact, starting navigation to frequent destinations, tuning the radio to a favorite station, or setting the ideal air conditioning temperature.

The Allure model comes standard with the PEUGEOT i-Connect® system, offering comprehensive connectivity through wireless mirroring (Apple CarPlay/Android Auto). For an enhanced technological experience, the E-5008 GT includes the PEUGEOT i-Connect® Advanced system as standard.

This features high-performance TomTom-connected navigation with a trip planner function. Its voice recognition with "OK, PEUGEOT" allows access to infotainment, heating, air conditioning, and phone functions. The system can now differentiate between commands from the driver and the passenger.

Additionally, the E-5008 will feature artificial intelligence, including ChatGPT, to facilitate interaction between occupants and the vehicle. To assist users and answer questions, the system includes onboard documentation and a QR code link to tutorials. The SUV is future-proofed with over-the-air updates capacity.

The large panoramic glass roof floods the cabin with natural light, and its front section can be opened, which is rare for an electric vehicle. Generous glazed areas ensure the cabin remains light and airy up to the third row.

The SUV is AQS (Air Quality System) ready. The system monitors air quality and automatically activates air recirculation if needed. The GT model further enhances this with the Clean Cabin air treatment system which filters pollutants and displays air quality on the widescreen.

The E-5008's interior design exudes a hi-tech lounge atmosphere isolated from external noise. The cabin is further soundproofed with optional laminated front windows. The new front seats, available in leather-effect and fabric on Allure and leather-effect and Alcantara on GT, offer exceptional comfort with high-density foam and ergonomic contouring.

The GT version features ventilated and massaging seats, with rear seats also heated. Adaptive side bolsters in the front seats inflate or deflate to fit the passenger's body shape. Second and third-row passengers enjoy optimal comfort with sliding and reclining second-row seats.

A control panel at the rear of the center console allows second-row occupants to adjust the temperature and ventilation of the tri-zone air conditioning system and optional heated seats. The center console includes a 12V socket and two USB-C ports, depending on the version.

GT versions feature a central armrest with cup holders and built-in blinds in the rear doors. Third-row passengers benefit from a cup holder, reading light, armrest, and a 12V outlet. Features such as elegant real aluminum trim and customizable ambient LED lighting, available in eight colors, create a high-quality, welcoming technological ambiance, running across the dashboard and the front and rear doors.
