Lexus finally released the highly anticipated 3rd-gen 2024 Lexus GX in December 13, 2023, debuting an exceptional blend of sophisticated features, off-road capability, and opulent craftsmanship. Redesigned from scratch, this latest iteration encourages customers to embrace their wanderlust, explore unconventional paths, and savor the pleasure of driving.
Introduced to the North American market in 2002, the first-generation GX swiftly established itself as a dominant player in the mid-luxury SUV segment. The 2024 GX builds upon the success of its predecessor introduced in 2010, delivering intuitive technology, thoughtful interior enhancements, and the enduring off-road prowess synonymous with the Lexus brand.
Available in six distinct grades—Premium, Premium+, Luxury, Luxury+, and introducing the new Overtrail and Overtrail+—the 2024 GX offers a comprehensive range of features and a more rugged and chiseled appearance.
Underneath, the 2024 GX shares the same body-on-frame GA-F platform as the LX 600, and it has a double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link setup at the rear.
The new SUV also adopts electronic power steering, which Lexus claims will offer greater steering feel both on- and off-road.
Additionally, buyers will have the option of an Adaptive Variable Suspension with active dampers. Scroll to the bottom to see the manufacturer-suggested retail pricing for the 2024 Lexus GX models.

The 2024 GX will initially be offered with only one powertrain option, the GX 550. This model features a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6 engine that produces an impressive 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox.
This powertrain setup allows for a towing capacity of up to 8,000 pounds. The GX's drivetrain comes standard with full-time four-wheel drive and a lockable Torsen limited-slip center differential.
The transfer case is electronically controlled and shifts between 4WD-High and 4WD-Low more quickly than the previous model.
Overtrail grades of the GX also come equipped with a locking rear differential. Although a hybrid powertrain option will be available for the GX in the future, Toyota has not yet announced a specific arrival date.

The third generation of the GX features a significantly different design than its predecessor, with an angular body and numerous hard creases. While the spindle grille remains a key design element, it has been incorporated more subtly into the front fascia.
The new model also features a more upright windshield, providing a sleeker profile view. The rear of the vehicle boasts a power hatchback with separate glass opening and a kick sensor for automatic opening.

The Overtrail models come equipped with black fender accents and an aluminum skid plate, as well as 18-inch wheels with 33-inch tires. These trims also offer crawl control, downhill assist control, and a 3D multi-terrain monitor.
The Electronic-Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System provides enhanced wheel articulation for superior off-road performance. The Overtrail+ also offers special seats with a massage function and power-extending cushion.
According to a Lexus spokesperson, the Overtrail models will be available at the same time as the other trim levels.
In contrast to its rugged exterior, the 2024 GX's cabin prioritizes luxury, with plush materials and high-end features.
It features an upgraded digital instrument cluster, with a 12.3-inch display replacing the previous analog gauges and small screen.
Notably, the 2024 Lexus GX flaunts a completely redesigned lower, horizontal instrument panel, extending seamlessly into the dash to simplify the driving and passenger experience, ensuring outstanding front and side visibility.
This innovative design creates a spacious and uncluttered environment, seamlessly integrating the available Head-Up Display (HUD) with the central 14-inch Multimedia Touchscreen Display featuring Lexus Interface technology.
Retaining physical dials for frequently used functions like air conditioning and audio volume, the off-road controls are strategically grouped near the gear shifter to minimize potential driver distraction.
Standard features include wireless Apple CarPlay® Integration and Android Auto™ compatibility, complemented by a digital 12.3 Multi-Information Display (MID) for a connected and intuitive driving experience.
The infotainment display has also been enlarged to 14.0 inches, up from the 10.3 inches in the earlier model.
The 2024 GX is available in two seating configurations - a six-passenger layout with captain's chairs for the second row, or a seven-person layout with a bench in the second row.
The second row offers versatility with two configurations: captain’s chairs or a 60:40 split-folding bench (Premium+, Luxury, Luxury+). Lexus introduced a convenient one-motion tumble system to enhance accessibility to the third row or luggage space.
Standard features include heated and ventilated outboard seats for the driver and front passenger, with the option for heated second-row seats. The third row is available in both power and manual seat configurations, and a rear seat reminder has been introduced for added safety and convenience.
Focusing on an earth-tone palette, the interior color design of the 2024 GX aims to harmonize with the natural surroundings just beyond the vehicle's doors. This thoughtful design approach further enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of the vehicle's interior.
The 2024 GX's interior features a mix of semi-aniline leather and NuLuxe in Black, Dapple Gray, and Saddle Tan. The Overtrail models come with a mix of either Black and Olive or Chateau and Olive upholstery.

When Lexus unveiled the LX 600 in 2022, the price was actually slightly lower than the 2021 model. So, we expected the new GX's price to mirror the current model's MSRP. However, the GX 550 is a much more capable and feature-rich midsize SUV with a satisfying off-road equipment.
In 2021, Lexus sold 32,509 units of the GX. However, the number of GXs sold in 2022 decreased by 7.9% to 29,945 units. With the impressively rugged, off-road-optimized GX 550, though, we expect the GX to shatter its own sales record.
