The new Passat model flaunts larger dimensions than its predecessor, thanks to a platform shared with the new Skoda Superb. It is only available in an estate version since the automaker discontinued the sedan with the previous generation. The pricing structure for the new Passat ultimately depends on the selected trim level: Life, Elegance, and R-Line.
The Passat's larger dimensions translate to more passenger space and a significantly larger trunk capacity. The vehicle's underpinnings have been updated to improve refinement, with a new Vehicle Dynamics Management system enhancing handling and performance.
The powertrain lineup offers a variety of options, starting with a 1.5-liter mild-hybrid petrol engine, with higher-powered 2.0-liter TSI petrol variants available, including a 4MOTION all-wheel-drive option. The all-new eHybrid models feature a 1.5-liter petrol engine and a larger 19.7kWh battery, offering an extended zero-emission range of 62 miles.
Customers can choose from eHybrid powertrains with two power outputs: 201 horsepower (204 PS) and 268 horsepower (272 PS), both supporting AC and rapid charging. The newest iteration of the Passat Variant, now in its ninth generation, blurs segment lines by offering business-class luxury and family-friendly versatility in one vehicle.
Despite being priced in the midsized class, the latest Passat Variant boasts a new size, quality, and innovative features that elevate it to compete with vehicles in the higher segments.
Not to be outdone, Volkswagen is also introducing two new turbodiesel (TDI) versions to the Passat lineup. The entry-level Passat TDI with 121 horsepower (90 kW; 122 PS) sets a new standard for efficiency in the midsized estate segment.
Meanwhile, the most potent TDI engine in the Passat family now churns out a respectable 191 horsepower (142 kW; 193 PS) and comes paired with the revered 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system as standard. These diverse drive variants seamlessly integrate into the Passat lineup, which includes the Variant and equipment lines such as Passat (entry-level version), Business, Elegance, and R-Line.
The various Passat equipment lines mean there's a Passat for everyone, be it discerning business drivers or those seeking top-of-the-line luxury mobility.
