Jeep murdered the Renegade in 2023, but the affordable subcompact SUV lives on in markets outside the USA, including South America, Europe, and Asia. In other words, despite being discontinued in America, the Renegade is in 2024 celebrating its 10th birthday anyway and has an almost two million-unit sales record to show for its decade-long existence. The Renegade is unique in that it’s one of the smallest and cheapest SUVs in the American Jeep’s (or shouldn’t we say Stellantis’) portfolio, and its departure leaves a gap for the under $30,000 Jeep Compass to fill, especially since the marque’s other subcompact – Fiat 500X – held hands with the Renegade as they bid America farewell for 2024.
The Jeep Renegade combines rugged, off-road capability with modern features and a distinctive, youthful design. Launched in 2014, the Renegade offers a compelling blend of Jeep's legendary heritage and contemporary urban practicality. The SUV’s iconic seven-slot grille and boxy, athletic stance stood it out in the segment. For its relative affordability, the Renegade offers impressive off-road prowess, a range of efficient engines, and a versatile interior, an attractive combo for adventure seekers and city dwellers alike.
Too bad the Renegade couldn’t make bank for seven straight years in America, but nothing stops a fan from importing from Europe or buying and driving one over from Mexico. We give you the lowdown on everything you need to know about the 2024 Jeep Renegade.

The 2024 Jeep Renegade is a carryover model with minimal changes from the previous year. Of course, Jeep would never dream of ridding it of its boxy, upright design that embodies the typical Jeep aesthetic.
The 2024 Renegade is available in four trim packages (in the UK, at least), providing a diverse range of options for drivers to experience Jeep's iconic driving experience on and off the beaten path.
Though one of the smallest models in Jeep's lineup, it offers a combination of power, performance, and off-road capabilities, but Americans still weren’t sold. Let’s take a little detour to find out why no one was buying the Renegade anymore.
We’ve already established that Jeep axed the Renegade in America to stop the bleeding from poor market sales, but the question is, what caused the bleeding in the first place? The Renegade started losing big time in 2019 and continued dropping through 2022 and 2023.
For example, Jeep managed to convince 9,149 Americans to buy the Renegades in 2023, although its Compass sibling did considerably better on the market, moving 51,293 units the same year.
Meanwhile, the all-new Chevrolet Trax, a competitor in the subcompact C-SUV segment, made GM proud with 109,382 units sold. The Trax’s market performance is incredible, considering it sold just 26,597 units the previous year.
So, why is even the Hyundai Venue (28,009 units sold in 2023) enjoying better patronage in America than the Jeep Renegade?
The number one reason is competition within the Jeep lineup. Aye, the Jeep Compass, thanks to a combination of factors, overshadowed the Jeep Renegade in market popularity. Why? Because both Jeeps were American, but the Compass was more American than the Renegade.
For starters, size and space. The Compass offers a larger and more spacious interior compared to the Renegade, and there’s nothing more American than large and larger, translating to greater passenger and cargo space.
Also, the Jeep Compass features a comparatively more powerful engine and enhanced off-road capability. Thirdly, the Compass possesses this, we say, perceived better value proposition, offering a balance of features, performance, and affordability compared to the Renegade.
Be as it may, the Compass wasn’t the Renegade’s only problem. Launched in 2015, the Renegade is an aging model with only minor upgrades over the years. In fact, the 2024 model is mostly carried over from 2023.
It didn’t help that dealers in North America had a significant oversupply of Jeep Renegades, with enough new units to last for two years, which is ten times the Market Day Supply (MDS) for a new car.
This oversupply was a clear sign of a disconnect between production and demand. This combination of factors led to declining sales and, ultimately, its demise. Even so, the Renegade remains a compelling small SUV with plenty of bells and whistles.
The 2024 Renegade jeep gets motivation from the company’s latest 1.5 Turbo E-Hybrid married to a new 7-speed DCT. The new Renegade comes in two versions, e-Hybrid (mild hybrid) and 4Xe plug-in hybrid, and multiple trim levels.
The hybrid powertrain’s attempt at harmonizing efficiency and performance results in a fuel economy rating ranging from 6.1 to 5.7 liters per 62 miles (100 kilometers) and CO2 emissions between 139 to 130 grams per kilometer.
The 2024 Renegade e-Hybrid model boasts up to 13% in fuel and CO2 reductions compared to the previous 1.3-liter Turbo petrol unit with 150 horsepower. Jeep says the SUV maintains an equal level of driving dynamics regardless of the drop in power.
The e-Hybrid's power output dropped to 130 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in a leisurely 9.7 seconds. The top speed stands at 119 mph.
Nonetheless, `Jeep’s e-Hybrid system is at the forefront of hybrid technology, delivering a comprehensive hybrid driving experience beyond the capabilities of conventional mild hybrids.
The system allows the electric motor to operate independently during parking, coasting, and low-speed cruising, offering an impressive electric-only driving range.
The coupled all-new 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission features optimized gear ratios for faster acceleration compared to the traditional 6-speed transmissions.
Jeep says the seventh gear is a deliberate design choice to enhance efficiency and lower emissions, especially during highway travel where the engine operates at reduced revolutions per minute.
The Jeep Renegade e-coasting system is a feature that enhances fuel efficiency by automatically disengaging the transmission when the driver releases the accelerator, allowing the vehicle to coast with reduced drag. This helps conserve energy and improve overall fuel economy by utilizing momentum during certain driving conditions. T
he Jeep Renegade e-boosting technology, on the other hand, is part of the new hybrid driving experience provided by the e-Hybrid propulsion system with an integrated 48-Volt 15-kW electric motor.
The technology enables full-electric propulsion, energy recovery, torque boosting to the wheels, and optimization of the operating point of the petrol engine. This helps in reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, offering a new alternative in the two-wheel-drive segment.
The driver controls the hybrid driving parameters via the Hybrid Pages on the infotainment display or from dedicated screenshots in the instrument panel. The technology delivers a versatile and relaxing driving experience and is made even safer by an extensive range of Advanced Driving Assistance Systems.
The 2024 Jeep Renegade’s interior blends style and functionality with soft-touch materials and leather upholstery. It features 8-way electrically adjustable heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and adjustable lumbar support to enhance the driver's well-being.
It comes with state-of-the-art tech features that put essential controls and information right at the driver’s fingertips. The central console features a smartphone dock, and there's a tablet-sized pocket emphasizing the vehicle's readiness for modern lifestyles.
The dashboard is a sophisticated amalgamation of tactile materials and practical elements. The iconic passenger-side grab handle is surrounded by soft-touch surfaces that extend to both the dashboard and door panels.
Additionally, the console offers extra storage space for everyday items, emphasizing both form and function. The optional 40/20/40 foldable rear seats transform the interior into an expansive, adaptable space catering to diverse passenger and cargo needs.
The strategically integrated storage solutions support the storage capacity in discreet compartments and purpose-built stash areas.
The 2024 Jeep Renegade flaunts the brand’s updated Uconnect infotainment system boasting an expansive display screen of up to 8.4” HD touchscreen, and now offering Hybrid Pages – a purpose-built interface providing comprehensive insights into your hybrid drive.
Integrating voice and steering wheel controls with touchscreen features ensures an intuitive, distraction-free user experience. The main screen is accompanied by a 7” Digital Cluster offering real-time information about battery and engine status, power and charging levels, and safety systems.
The Renegade’s numerous Uconnect connectivity features keep you in touch with your car even when you're not there. Be it checking updates or managing tasks, the seamless smartphone connection ensures you can stay connected without diverting your attention from the road. The system brings an array of on-the-go features via Connect One and Connect Plus.
Jeep’s Uconnect One provides a range of useful features to keep owners connected and entertained while on the move. The key features include:
The Renegade’s innovative E-Creeping feature smoothly propels the vehicle using only the electric motor when the brake pedal is released, promoting silent and emissions-free driving.
Also, the E-Launch technology enables the car to start up and accelerate in complete silence, relying solely on the electric motor, while the E-Queueing enhances efficiency by keeping the car in all-electric mode during traffic, minimizing emissions in stop-start conditions.
E-Parking facilitates purely electric, emissions-free maneuvers, showcasing the advanced capabilities of the e-Hybrid technology.
The 2024 Jeep Renegade offers a comprehensive suite of active and passive safety systems featuring a front camera, front radar, and an array of sensors surrounding the vehicle.
The Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) technology identifies speed limits and corresponding road signs via the front camera to deliver real-time notifications and directions directly on the digital dashboard.
The TSR comes standard and operates independently of maps or GPS, relying solely on information captured by the front camera.
However, the Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA) integrates with TSR, adapting the Renegade's speed to current speed limits while empowering the driver to maintain control over the gas and brake pedals. Like the TSR, the ISA comes standard across the Renegade range.
For rearward protection, the Renegade benefits from the Park View rear camera activated when the vehicle is in reverse. It provides a clear live feed of the rear surroundings through the Uconnect infotainment system.
To address the issue of blind spots during maneuvers, the Renegade e-Hybrid incorporates Rear Cross Path Detection. This advanced safety system alerts the driver both visually and audibly to potential impacts with incoming vehicles or pedestrians.
The 2024 Jeep Renegade comes in two versions: the e-hybrid and the 4Xe plug-in hybrid. The e-hybrid combines plug-in hybrid efficiency with genuine off-road capability. It uses a 1.3-liter petrol engine with an electric motor and an 11.4kWh (usable) battery.
There are two power outputs available: 185 horsepower for the Limited trim and 234 horsepower for the Upland or range-topping Trailhawk. 4WD comes standard to announce its off-road competence.
The e-hybrid also offers an 8.4-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, among other standard features. The 4Xe plug-in hybrid version offers similar efficiency benefits and off-road capability as the e-hybrid.
It also uses a 1.3-liter petrol engine with an electric motor and a battery. The plug-in hybrid technology allows for electric-only driving to cut emissions and fuel consumption.
It comes in three different versions: Limited, Upland, and Trailhawk, each with its own set of features and capabilities. The 4Xe plug-in hybrid is ideal for Renegade fans looking for a balance of efficiency and off-road readiness. Explore the trim levels of both versions below.
1. Limited – $38,000 (£30,030)
The e-Hybrid version of the 2024 Jeep Renegade has the Limited model as its sole trim level, and the Uconnect 8.4-inch infotainment screen is central to this trim.
This system delivers crisp graphics and responsive touch controls for a variety of media and vehicle settings, while the steering wheel controls with Bluetooth allow for easy access to audio and hands-free phone operation.
It comes equipped with 17" alloy wheels wrapped in 215/60 R17 three-season tires. Comfort features in the Renegade e-Hybrid Limited trim include a 6-way manual adjustable driver's seat and a 4-way manual adjustable passenger seat.
The 3rd rear headrest is height-adjustable, and the dual-zone automatic air conditioning means both the driver and front passenger can set and enjoy their own climate preferences.
Cruise control adds to the convenience on longer journeys, and internal grab handles provide passengers with added stability and comfort.
A thoughtful addition to the Renegade Limited trim is the tire filling/repair kit (Fix & Go) and Tire Kit Tag, ensuring you’re ready to handle minor tire emergencies on the road. It includes safety features such as LaneSense Lane Departure Warning-Plus and rear parking sensors.
Plus, while the incandescent tail lamps provide a traditional look, they maintain high visibility for following drivers.
As for the aesthetics, the Renegade Limited maintains a sleek and cohesive look with painted external rearview mirrors, side repeater lamps on the mirrors for added visibility during turns, and side roof rails that offer practicality and underline the SUV's adventurous spirit.
A body-colored roof provides a smooth and stylish vibe complementing the vehicle’s overall design.
2. Limited – $46,444 (£36,500)
The 2024 Renegade 4Xe version also gets a Limited trim. Like the e-Hybrid model, it rides on 17-inch silver alloy wheels but is wrapped in 235/55 R17 three-season tires.
For comfort, the 4Xe Limited offers a 6-way manual adjustment for the driver's seat and a 4-way manual adjustment for the passenger seat, ensuring occupants can find a comfortable seating position for those long drives. It also includes a height-adjustable 3rd rear headrest.
The 4Xe Renegade Limited stands out with an automatic climate control system featuring remote vehicle preheating/air conditioning. This means owners can set the interior temperature to their preference before entering the vehicle, an especially useful feature in extreme weather conditions.
Adding to the convenience is the inclusion of cruise control to make long-distance driving less taxing. The door trim vinyl inserts, internal grab handles, and internal rearview mirror add a touch of sophistication to the interior.
The 4Xe Limited trim isn’t all about convenience and aesthetics, though. It features Jeep’s Selec-Terrain system, including a Sport Mode, that lets drivers fine-tune the vehicle's performance to match the terrain – snow, sand, mud, or rock. Of course, it also comes with the Tire Kit Tag to make sure you don’t go running to a repair shop over minor tire issues.
In addition to safety technologies, such as the LaneSense Lane Departure Warning-Plus, the 4Xe Limited trim gets a solar control glass that helps reduce UV light and heat buildup inside the vehicle.
As for the aesthetics, this trim’s interior styling is accented with a leather gear knob for the automatic transmission, which adds a premium feel to the cabin. On the outside, the Renegade Limited features painted external rearview mirrors and side repeater lamps integrated into the mirrors.
We admit the side roof rails are not only functional for carrying additional cargo but also promote the vehicle's adventurous look. The body-colored roof distinguishes the Limited trim from lower trim levels with a different color roof.
3. Upland – $46,444 (£36,500)
The 2024 Jeep Renegade Upland trim offers a tech-savvy, comfortable, and stylish driving experience. Starting with in-cabin technology, the Upland gets the Uconnect 8.4-inch infotainment screen and 7" color instrument panel along with Bluetooth-enabled steering wheel controls for hands-free audio and phone operations. The Uconnect Services and Uconnect Box extend its connectivity and telematics capabilities.
The Upland sits on 17" gloss black diamond-cut wheels paired with 235/55 all-season tires. The cabin offers a 6-way manual adjustable driver's seat and a 4-way manual adjustable passenger seat plus a height-adjustable 3rd rear headrest.
Other convenience features include automatic climate control with remote vehicle preheating/air conditioning, cruise control, door trim vinyl inserts, internal grab handles, and an internal rearview mirror.
While the leather gear shifter round out the cabin’s premium feel, the tinted privacy glass not only adds to the vehicle's sleek look but also provides additional privacy and protection from sunlight.
Upland owners benefit from an EV/PHEV mode charging cable and the Selec-Terrain system with Sport Mode for enhanced off-road capabilities.
For enhanced safety, the 2024 Jeep Renegade Upland comes with an array of LED lighting, including high beam, low beam, daytime running lights, fog lamps, taillamps, and a license plate light, all designed to improve visibility and on-road presence.
Front and rear parking sensors, coupled with the LaneSense Lane Departure Warning-Plus, contribute to a safer journey. Like the Limited models, Upland also features a body-colored roof, side roof rails, a Tire Filling/Repair Kit, and painted external rearview mirrors with integrated side repeater lamps.
4. Trailhawk – $78,984 (£38,500)
The 2024 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk represents the pinnacle of the Renegade lineup, offering rugged capability coupled with advanced technology and comfort features, making it equally at home on city streets and off-road trails.
Indeed, tech-savvy drivers will appreciate the Trailhawk's 7" color instrument panel and the Uconnect 8.4-inch infotainment screen.
The Uconnect Box and Uconnect Services enhance connectivity and offer a range of services to keep passengers connected on the go. Steering wheel controls with Bluetooth functionality ensure drivers can keep their hands on the wheel while managing audio and phone calls.
The Trailhawk rides on 17" gloss black diamond-cut wheels pairable with the 235/55 all-season tires. Inside, the cabin offers a 6-way manual driver seat and a 4-way manual passenger seat, along with a height-adjustable 3rd rear headrest. T
he automatic climate control with remote preheating/air conditioning also comes in the package. Cargo tie-down loops and a height-adjustable cargo load floor add versatility for securing gear, while cruise control aids in long-distance travel.
Door trim vinyl inserts and internal grab handles add to the interior's functionality and aesthetic appeal. A rear tow hook and a suite of skid plate shields (protecting the front suspension, fuel tank, transfer case, and transmission) underscore the Trailhawk's off-road readiness.
While the Limited and Upland models also get the Selec-trac system, it lets Trailhawk drivers tailor the vehicle's 4x4 performance to the current driving conditions.
Safety is a priority with the Trailhawk trim, which includes front and rear parking sensors, LaneSense Lane Departure Warning-Plus, and additional skid plates to protect vital components under the vehicle.
Other Renegade Trailhawk distinguishing features include a body-colored roof, Tire Kit, leather gear knob, painted external rearview mirrors, side repeater lamps on the mirrors, and side roof rails.
